The 2017 Australian Dragon and Phoenix 1 ounce Silver bullion coin

Manufacturer: Perth Mint
Dimensions: 40.6 mm
Weight (grams): 31.103
Fineness: 9999

The ERROR Variant

If you look at the first picture of a normal variant and the Error variant side by side your hopefully notice my crude red outline around the Error area’s, It appears that one of the batches forgot to matte finish 2 area’s on the coin leaving them with an almost proof mirror finish instead of the white background.

The first is behind the head of the Phoenix towards its main body & the second is a tiny area on the Dragons foot, As far as Errors go pretty nice ones and not exactly typical of the Perth mint,
The Perth mint has acknowledged the minting error but have no information on how many were made before they corrected it.

I’ve personally sold over 300 of these beautiful coins before this Error was pointed out to me which just goes to show if you don’t know what to look for then you can miss it and after searching though my remaining stock I only found 10 of them which were all in the same roll of 20 coins.

So here comes the question how much premium do these coins deserve considering they are limited edition ( 50000 ) with an error variant of very few & no Idea how many there might be.
I’ve purchased 200 more of the coins since and have not found a single one so clearly it must have been only on one of the few first batches that were issued.

No one is selling them yet as far as i can tell so your guess is as good as mine but i suspect they might well be worth sitting on if you have one!

Like I said I suspect I would have sold a few of these error variants to a couple of you so if you purchased some of these coins when i first listed them it might be worth checking to see if you have one !

Sincerely martin 🙂

The Third design in the coin’s illustrious history produced by the Pobjoy mint it Follows in the success of the Gold Bullion Angel coin produced in 1984 which won the prestigious Coin of the year award for excellence, I personally think this will be one of the most sought after bullion coins for collectors in the years to come.

Each 2016 Isle of Man Angel silver bullion coin has been struck four times in contrast to the single strike on a normal bullion coin to produce a Beautiful Reverse proof coin of the highest quality & standard, it features a stunning modern design of the Angel St. Michael battling the dragon with a frosted-finish background sculpted in striking relief. A truly amazing coin which carries an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on a frosted background, Lord of Mann, by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS on the obverse.
Sadly I Fear my photo’s do not do it justice but a link to the available product is below.

History of the coin

Originally the Angel was a gold coin introduced into England by King Edward IV in 1465 as a new issue of the Noble also called the Angel-noble. It was Based on a French coin which had been issued since 1340, the Angelot or Ange, depicts the Archangel St. Michael slaying the Dragon.

A truly iconic coin the Angel was thought to bring good luck and health and was traditionally given to sufferers of the ‘King’s evil’ or scrofula a form of tuberculous skin disease, The Monarch would present the coin to the person in a religious ceremony intending to cure them with the ‘royal touch’ due to the divine rights of sovereigns. This practice was carried on well into the 18th century.

The Pobjoy Mint

Following in a wide range of family enterprises ranging from The Pobjoy Aero engineering company which made Spitfire wings in ww2 to the Pobjoy Jewellery & masonry Business, The Pobjoy family can trace their association with medals, metal craftsmanship and regalia back over 300 years right up to the Pobjoy mint was set up by Derek Pobjoy in 1965 after he purchased his first coin press.

Since 1974 the Pobjoy mint has produced commemorate & pattern coins for nearly 20% of the worlds governments, central banks and major companies, renowned for its high quality production of coins and medals, since 1984 they have been presented with 18 awards and accolades including over 18 coin of the year awards, the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement in 1990; the Vreneli-Preis, by Münzen-Revue for outstanding contribution to numismatics and the ISO 9001 2008 quality mark, which was awarded by BSI in recognition of the overall high standards of quality and customer service achieved by the Pobjoy mint, culminating now in the Pobjoy mint wining the International Mint of the Year award 2016.

Based in the English county of Surrey, The Pobjoy mint has also been at the forefront of innovation,  It developed the world’s first satisfactory man-made precious metal, Virenium, which has since been successfully used in high denomination coinage since 1978,  the first braille coin, the first hologram coin, the first spinning coin, the first diamond shaped coin & the first British fine gold 999.9 coin & is responsible for the revival of many age-old, long-forgotten numismatic customs.

In conclusion

The 2016 Isle of Man Angel silver bullion coin is by far the best New Silver bullion coin to come out on the market and in my opinion the best Bullion coin on sale today and to top it all off:

its British!  🙂

Statues of ten heraldic beasts stood guard at the entrance to Westminster Abbey as the world watched the coronation of Her Majesty The Queen in 1953. Those creatures have been reimagined on the coins in The Queen’s Beasts Collection, which tell the stories of ancient symbols of ancestry and power through a series of designs by Jody Clark.

Now, in the final design for this popular bullion collection, all ten beasts are united in a protective circle around Her Majesty The Queen, making it the only coin to feature the beasts and the monarch they represent in one regal design. The obverse features the artist’s definitive coinage portrait of Her Majesty and together, these designs are a fitting tribute to complete this iconic collection.

The reverse features all ten Beasts arranged in a protective circle around HRH The Queen. This is the only coin in the series to unite all ten beasts with the monarch whose heritage they represent, in one unique design.

The obverse design depicts the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, and the monetary denomination of £5. Both the obverse and reverse are designed by British Coin Designer Jody Clark, creator of the latest definitive portrait of The Queen on UK coinage.

The Beautiful Unicorn and Pegasus Proof Finish 1 ounce Bullion coins

The Beautiful Unicorn and Pegasus Proof Finish 1 ounce Bullion coins

The first thing you will notice about these stunning coins is the perfection of the designs and finish, I’ve yet to see a more beautiful proof finished coin in 999 bullion silver than these,
Each coin is limited to 2500 and comes with its own certificate number, coin capsule and coin box.
Starting firstly with the Unicorn coloured proof finish and then the normal proof finish without colour and then followed by the Pegasus coloured proof finish and normal proof finish.

Denomination:

Minted with a mirrored field on the reverse side of the coin, both this field and the unicorn are silver, symbolising absolute purity. The remarkable, rich jewel tones colours of the forest provide a stark contrast to the unicorn’s purity. The colours of the tree and the surrounding greenery symbolise the real world around us. While it is colourful and attractive to us, it is not virtuous.
Only those who are chaste and virtuous can tame the unicorn. Tapestries from the Renaissance depict the captured unicorn surrounded by these same greens, browns and reds, all colours of the natural world. With the colours in the background, you are sure to notice the confident stance of the mythical unicorn that looks beyond the world of base desire.

Turn this coin to the obverse side and will see the images that appear on most Tokelau coins: Queen Elizabeth II and the badge of Tokelau. These reliefs, too, are crafted with superior artistry and each coin is minted to the highest quality.
Your Unicorn Silver Coloured Proof coin is legal tender in the Pacific Island of Tokelau, but you may not want to let go of it. The coin will arrive in a crimson presentation box, and it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The legendary creature Pegasus is a much-loved and well-recognized figure in mythology. It is this powerful winged horse who can soar on feathered wings through the air, control the weather and create a wellspring of inspiration simply by stamping one thunderous hoof into the earth.
In this silver coin, rich indigo clouds summoned by Pegasus begin to boil out of the sky. The powerful horse leaps upward, his wings ready to catch the air in one giant clasp as he surges out on his mission.

The drama of this coin lies in the frosted relief image of Pegasus, framed by both the inky dark clouds and the mirrored field behind him. The stunning detail of his body and wings is exquisite, and it is the proof quality that makes the minting so remarkable.
The obverse side of the Silver Coloured Proof Tokelau Coin is also a work of art because it bears a cameo of the monarch of Tokelau, Queen Elizabeth II. Look closely and you will see the intricate details of not only her crown but also each lock of hair. Beneath her lies the badge of Tokelau, which is a common symbol of all Tokelau coins.

By all account the most beautiful coins i’ve yet had the pleasure of selling

Nationofeshopkeepers! the bright future of online selling

Nation of E shopkeepers! The bright future of online selling.

Dear Readers

About the future of online selling, 10 months ago I was invited to join a private forum for small UK start up businesses where members could exchange ideas, information and their experiences of building up and promoting a business. This group had and still has a lively forum and talks about everything from online selling platforms to couriers, legal information, website advertising and various mistakes and successes that they have made. The group works like a co op where business owners try to help & promote each other across the internet including twitter, Face book and various other platforms.
The group itself is brilliantly organised by small business owners who allow only recommended small businesses  or vetted applicants to join. Needless to say it’s a brilliant resource center for people who are starting or running a small business and who are looking for help or advice.

Sadly due to the workload of setting up my own website and online platforms I neglected to contribute as much as I wish I had to this forum until I received a newsletter from them 2 weeks ago and logged back in, the business members on this forum kindly forgave the fact that I was a complete slacker and welcomed me back with open arms.

which brings me to the reason for this blog:

The various members working together have been very busy not only in the forum exchanging information but also on the new project( nationofeshopkeepers ) a website made to look like a high street with shop fronts linking back to members individual websites, The idea being to create a selling platform of individual websites selling everything from children’s toys, tools, handmade items, jewelry, books, clothing, art supplies and so much more! Even including silver bullion now.

Rather than each small business promoting just its own products they are advertising the high street itself and thereby promoting the other small business members as well across the internet.
With eBay, Amazon and other selling platforms becoming more and more greedy, constantly creating new rules and higher fee’s in which to fleece small business sellers! not to mention the obvious moves they are making to give preferential treatment to the big sellers like Argos on their platforms I rarely find a seller who is happy, yet we all seem to be held hostage to these selling platforms and struggle to reach the wider audience on the net without having to pay through the nose for advertising services which rarely come close to expectations.

So wouldn’t it be brilliant if this was the bright future of online selling! Small businesses working together, creating their own selling platform to compete with the impersonal corporations and bringing back that personal friendly customer service we used to enjoy before it all became about margins, overheads & automated contact systems. a platform without fee’s allowing small traders to pass on the savings to the customers while also allowing customers direct contact with the people in charge who they are dealing with.

Maybe it’s not the future maybe it’s already starting here!

If you’re a UK small business you can contact the organisers of nationofeshops through the above link to either become part of the High street project or to join the forum and exchange advice and help with others like yourselves.

hope to see you there

Gold and Silver Bullion Testing methods

Gold and Silver Bullion Testing methods

Nicely shown and explained in this youtube video

First posted in September 2014 by silver.com on youtube.
The Gold and Silver Bullion Testing Methods Video takes you through 6 testing methods Starting in this order!

The Magnet test,

My personal favourite and easiest to do when in doubt, it does not damage the item and has together with product knowledge exposed most fakes that i have come across, Its also the reason why i send a free small Neodymium magnet out with if requested to my customers.

The Ice Cube Test,

I’ve tried this a couple of times but as the video points out its probably the worst of the tests and is completely unreliable.

The Ping Test,

Not a big fan of this test and maybe its my hearing but its never really worked for me, plus you risk scratching the coin if you ping it too hard trying to make it work.

The Acid Test,

This test permanently damages the item and for it to really work you need to either drill or scratch into the coin or bar just in case the item is silver plated so yes it works but your wish it didn’t after you have done it!

Also after opening the acid bottle the acid only has a 3 month shelf life so after that the test results will slowly get worse untill it no longer can be relied upon.

The Ultrasound + Caliper Test.

I’ve seen the refinery where i buy my Silver bars use an ultrasound gun which apparently costs £17.000 which is a little to much but this video shows a cheaper option of doing it, however i think it might be a little to much hassle for your average collector or stacker.

The Weight Test,

The most interesting and as the video points out probably the best way of testing your items but if your out and about buying precious metals not the kind of test you can unpack in front of the seller without him ringing the police asking to have the illegal picnic removed from his store.

 In Summery

Ideally product knowledge and a little research will save you a lot of trouble, also buying from a reputable dealer and Knowing the weight, dimensions, thickness and look of the coin or bar is the best defense against buying fakes, But failing that learn to use a strong Magnet.

A free Rare earth Magnet for silver testing is available with any existing order here:

Coin Capsules and Coin Accessories

Coin Capsules and Coin Accessories.

Dear Customers

Some of you have asked me in recent times about buying coin capsules and coin accessories for items you have brought from other dealers
As any of you who have brought coins from me before will know,
I always send out my items in individual coin capsules to protect and preserve them as best as possible unlike other dealers who send them out in mint tubes whereby the coins can bang around and become scratched or in little sandwich bags which are completely useless.

As I myself do not sell the coin capsules or accessories I thought it would be a good idea to share my supplier with you all in case you need more coin capsules or other accessories to preserve your bullion coins and collectables.
I’ve personally dealt with Andy and Sam at Coin Gallery for over 12 months and I’ve brought thousands of items from them without a single problem, I have always been impressed with the speed and professionalism with which they deal with my orders, perfect packaging, exactly as described and quickly and securely dispatched.

Due also to the variation in coins that I sell I sometimes struggle to find capsules deep enough or big enough for coins like the 1.5 ounce Canadian Polar Bear and have emailed Andy for advice, without exception he has always taken the time and provided me with a perfect solution to my needs so that I can provide the best possible service to you my customers.

Naturally all my coins and collectables will continue to be sold in protective capsules which I buy in bulk from Coin Gallery, but if you need more coin capsules, coin envelopes, coin trays or a multitude of other accessories for stamps or coins drop these guys an email at Coin Gallery
I guarantee you won’t be disappointed
At some point i will add a permanent link to the coin gallery site but untill then just click on the link below

100 gram silver Bullion Bar in Presentation Capsule and giftbox

Dear customer,

The 100 gram silver Bullion bar in Presentation Capsule & Gift box for the Sheffield hallmarked bars.

Capsule Information

Due to the fact that no Bullion dealers have bothered to have capsules made for any silver bars larger than a 1 ounce bar I decided to have these made! Mainly because I hate sending out silver bars in sandwich bags.
The  capsules are plastic with foam inserts which perfectly fit the Sheffield hallmarked 100 gram bars in this beautiful presentation capsule, they also fit the 100 gram Metalor bars.
I have also included a gift box mainly for protection during its transportation to the customer but also just in case the capsule is intended as a gift.

Bar Information

Independently verified and hallmarked silver bars by the Sheffield assay office, Registers of maker’s marks (now called sponsor’s marks) going back to 1773.
The sponsor’s mark is made up of two major components; the sponsor’s initials and the shape which surrounds them. The font or typeface of the initials and the particular shape of the surround are what distinguish a sponsor’s mark, In this case the initials SAO & the ROSE hallmark.
Brand new 100 gram silver bars manufactured in the Heart of Yorkshire & Hallmarked in Sheffield.
Each bar is refined electrolytically to produce fine silver products of 999 purity.
