The 2016 Isle of Man Angel silver bullion coin

The 2016 Isle of Man Angel silver bullion coin

The 2016 Isle of Man Angel silver bullion coin is in my opinion probably the best made Bullion coin of the year, its sheer beauty, design, quality & attention to detail is second to none. The Third design in the coin’s illustrious history produced by the Pobjoy mint it Follows in the success of the Gold Bullion Angel coin produced in 1984 which won the prestigious Coin of the year award for excellence, I personally think this will be one of the most sought after bullion coins for collectors in the years to come.

Each 2016 Isle of Man Angel silver bullion coin has been struck four times in contrast to the single strike on a normal bullion coin to produce a Beautiful Reverse proof coin of the highest quality & standard, it features a stunning modern design of the Angel St. Michael battling the dragon with a frosted-finish background sculpted in striking relief. A truly amazing coin which carries an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on a frosted background, Lord of Mann, by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS on the obverse.

Originally the Angel was a gold coin introduced into England by King Edward IV in 1465 as a new issue of the Noble also called the Angel-noble. It was Based on a French coin which had been issued since 1340, the Angelot or Ange, depicts the Archangel St. Michael slaying the Dragon.

A truly iconic coin the Angel was thought to bring good luck and health and was traditionally given to sufferers of the ‘King’s evil’ or scrofula a form of tuberculous skin disease, The Monarch would present the coin to the person in a religious ceremony intending to cure them with the ‘royal touch’ due to the divine rights of sovereigns. This practice was carried on well into the 18th century.
