The third issue of the Mythical Creatures series was struck from two ounces of 99.9% silver in proof quality and is dedicated to the Sea Serpent, The motive in color shows a depiction of a gigantic sea serpent in the green-bluish shimmering sea. Above is the inscription “THE SEA SERPENT”.

Sea serpents are among the most fearsome sea monsters and appear in stories by the Roman poet Virgil. Sightings of the mystical creatures by sailors, which are said to have taken place mainly in the North Atlantic and in bays off Norway, presumably go back to the so-called oarfish, a deep-sea fish with an approximately 8-metre-long, snake-like body.
