Perth Mint’s Australian Lunar Series III collection continues the rich tradition of minting spectacular bullion coins by portraying animal themes from the Chinese lunar calendar. The reverse design changes each year based on the Chinese lunar calendar, and the 2026 reverse celebrates the Year of the Horse.

Those born under the sign of the Chinese lunar horse in 2026, 2014, 2002, 1990, 1978 and every 12^th preceding year are said to be charismatic, independent and have a great love of adventure.

According to tradition, the emperor held a grand race to determine the twelve animals representing the years. The horse, which arrived seventh, symbolizes independence, charisma, and a love of adventure. People born under this sign are known for their courage, optimism, and free spirit.

Reverse features two Coloured horses in a dynamic galloping pose set against a mountainous meadow. On the left appears the mint mark “P”, and at the top the inscription “HORSE 2026” along with the Chinese character for the Year of the Horse.

Obverse displays the effigy of King Charles III surrounded by his name, the denomination, and details of the coin’s weight and fineness.
