The Story

The Alkonost BU coin is the third silver bullion premium issue from the Slavic Beasts series, made of the highest-grade silver (999). It is available in two weight variants – 1 oz (mintage 10 pcs) and 2 oz (mintage 2000 pcs). The coin impresses with its extremely precise depiction of details, and its rich symbolism references Slavic mythology.

The obverse of the coin features the official markings of the issuer – the Republic of Cameroon. In the central part, there is the coat of arms of Cameroon, consisting of a shield supported by two crossed fasces (bundles of lictor’s rods), placed against the backdrop of a scale symbolizing justice. Above the coat of arms is Cameroon’s national motto: “PAIX – TRAVAIL – PATRIE” (“Peace – Work – Fatherland”), and below is the silver purity mark “Ag 999” along with the coin’s denomination – “1000 FRANCS CFA.”

The most prominent element of the obverse is the detailed scene inspired by Slavic folklore and nature. Among dense ferns and other plants, hidden eyes can be seen, adding a mystical touch to the entire composition. Slightly above the center of the coin, a mysterious hand emerges from the vegetation, its fingers slightly curled, as if reaching for something hidden among the ferns. At the bottom of the coin, the twisting tail of a snake-like creature subtly weaves into the composition, creating an intriguing, almost hypnotic effect. At the top of the obverse is the stylized symbol of the year of issue – “2024.” Next to it, a bat with outstretched wings is visible, along with a delicately marked spider’s web featuring a spider, emphasizing the fairy-tale and dark atmosphere.

The reverse of the coin depicts the main character – Alkonost, a creature from Slavic mythology with the body of a bird and the head of a woman. According to legend, her song is so beautiful that anyone who hears it loses the ability to hear anything else.

The central element is the woman with striking features, full lips, and a hypnotizing gaze. Her head is adorned with an intricately decorated crown. She wears large, ornate earrings and a necklace. Her body transitions into bird wings, which are meticulously crafted with numerous feathers displaying distinct structure. Alkonost’s attire is richly decorated with ornaments that reference Slavic design. In her hands, she holds a flower, the details of its petals and leaves being incredibly precise.

The background of the reverse is filled with additional elements. Above Alkonost, the sun with a human face rises, surrounded by stylized rays and clouds. On the sides, plants and fruits can be seen, creating a lush, vibrant composition. At the bottom of the reverse is the inscription “ALKONOST” and “SLAVIC BESTIARY,” referencing the series to which the coin belongs. Next to it is a geometric symbol with a mystical character.
