Perth Mint’s Australian Lunar Series III collection continues the rich tradition of minting spectacular bullion coins by portraying animal themes from the Chinese lunar calendar. The reverse design changes each year based on the Chinese lunar calendar, and the 2027 reverse celebrates the Year of the Goat.
People born in the Year of the Goat are traditionally regarded as gentle, creative and compassionate. They are associated with a calm nature, resilience, artistic talent and a particularly thoughtful approach to life. The limited 1/2 oz Year of the Goat Silver Proof Coin is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
The eighth issue in the 12-year Lunar III Series features a highly detailed depiction of three goats in a peaceful landscape. A mature goat, a young goat and a baby goat are shown resting and grazing together amid a rocky setting. The design refers to the traditional Chinese saying “Three Goats Bring Bliss” (Sān yáng kāi tài), which symbolises the end of winter, the arrival of spring, renewal, prosperity and auspicious new beginnings. The scene is complemented by a blossoming plum tree, symbolising purity, resilience and hope. Also integrated into the elaborate design are the Chinese character for “Goat”, the inscription “GOAT 2027” and the Perth Mint’s traditional “P” mint mark.
The reverse: of the coin features the portrait of King Charles III designed by Dan Thorne, together with the weight, fineness and denomination.
