Time for the era of giants! The first coin in the new Megafauna series from Germania Mint features the Cave Lion – a mighty predator that once roamed the icy steppes of Europe and Asia. The 2026 Republic of Liberia Megafauna: Cave Lion 20 Dollars 1 oz Silver BU coin celebrates the raw power and majesty of the lost prehistoric world.
Designed by Kinga Sabatowicz, the coin highlights the beauty of the prehistoric world. The 2026 Republic of Liberia Megafauna: Cave Lion 20 Dollars 1 oz Silver BU has a limited mintage of 5,000 pieces, each encapsulated in a lens capsule and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Obverse: depicts the Cave Lion in its natural habitat – surrounded by mountains and ancient forests. Every detail, from the tense muscles to the bared fangs and sharp claws, captures the predator in full readiness, frozen in the moment before the decisive leap that determines survival.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin depicts a Cave Lion in a moment of primal fury, its massive body poised to strike, jaws open and claws extended. In standard light, the scene appears carved from stone and shadow, evoking a frozen echo of a lost world. Under UV light, the design transforms: the lion emerges in vivid color against its ancient environment, symbolizing the brief resurgence of life before oblivion. The surrounding landscape of cliffs and dense forest reinforces the harshness of the Ice Age, where dominance was temporary and extinction inevitable. The obverse features a rugged prehistoric texture centered on a fossilized Cave Lion skull, encircled by ancient animal track symbols. Around the central design are the inscriptions: “REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA” – the issuing country, “2026” – the year of issue, “20 DOLLARS” – the face value, and “1 OZ Ag 999” – the weight and fineness of Silver.
