The 12 guardians are known to protect 12 different directions during war. Each guardian represents the animals in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The series started in 2017 with Gallus, representing the Year of the Rooster who guards the West. Although the guardians are seen in their human form, their armor often depicts the animal that they represent.
The Ninth release in the series is this 2025-dated medal depicting the warrior Ophidia. Minted in a full ounce of highly pure 99.9% fine silver, featuring the figure of Ophidia in a dynamic, lively pose, showing her protective power and spiritual strength.
The obverse: field of all 2025 South Korean Zi:Sin Ophidia Silver Medals features a Doggaebi Shield. This image has been featured on the obverse of every Medal in this series, however, the design became more ferocious starting in 2020. This Doggaebi is a mythical creature, people would hang the effigy of the Doggaebi from the edge of their roof tiles to ward off evil spirits. Identifying marks of the coin are also featured around the shield.
The reverse: of 2025 1 oz Zi:Sin Ophidia Silver Medals features one of the 12 guardians, featuring the figure of Ophidia in a dynamic, lively pose, showing her protective power and spiritual strength. The composition is completed with the inscription “ZI:SIN”.
