COIN INFORMATION

The Australian one ounce silver piece (abbreviated as 1 oz and designated with Ag for “silver”) is a bullion coin format. Uniquely, in Australia there are two mints independently authorised to strike legal tender: the Royal Australian Mint (which also makes the country’s circulating coinage) and the Perth Mint which only makes collector and bullion coins, as well as other bullion products.

The Australian Koala series by the Perth Mint comes in several sizes and compositions: 1 kg silver, 5 oz silver, 1 oz silver numismatic (proof, high relief) and 1 oz silver bullion. The Royal Australian Mint also issues silver Kookaburra bullion coins.

The obverse: of the coin displays the bust of King Charles III, which depicts him bare-headed (uncrowned) and wearing a suit and tie, facing left, Below the shoulder truncation in tiny letters, the artist’s initials DT (for Dan Thorne), Around, the monarch’s legend, the date of issue and the face value of the coin: CHARLES III · AUSTRALIA 2025 · 1 DOLLAR.

The reverse: of the coin depicts two koalas, a mother and her joey, nestled on a eucalyptus tree. Below, the inscription KOALA, below which in smaller letters the precious metal content: 1 oz .999 Ag (one ounce of 99.9% silver; Ag is abbreviated from the Latin word for silver, Argentum), In the right field, the initials of the designer, AWB, for Adam William Ball.
