The story of Una and the Lion has been a source of inspiration for many centuries and its unique qualities have inspired a new bullion bar range from The Royal Mint. The intriguing tale, laden with symbolic meaning, has been chosen many times as a compelling subject for artistic interpretation. Una and the Lion notably appeared as a beautiful coin design created by famed engraver William Wyon.  

This bullion bar design is inspired by the poem The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser. The epic poem follows the adventures of several knights to illustrate different virtues. Along the way, Spenser introduces Una, the daughter of a king and queen imprisoned by a dragon. On her quest to free her parents she comes across a lion. Una’s beauty and innocence becalm the beast, so instead of devouring the princess, the lion becomes her champion.  

The reverse: of the bar features a beautifully detailed design depicting Una guiding her lion guardian. The inscription ‘DIRIGE DEUS GRESSUS MEOS’ appears below, which translates to ‘May God direct my steps’.

The obverse: side of the bar features The Royal Mint’s shield logo with details of the bar’s weight and fineness.

    Fantastic minted bars, the crisp and well struck details exampling the good quality manufacturing of the bars shows exactly what the Royal Mint can do well, (when they can be bothered). With the bars encased in quality capsules it makes these a bars a definite must have. (Hopefully I catch a 10oz one soon).

    I can’t believe this is a royal mint bar. It can’t be. Like what the reviews say above it is flawless. It is beautiful. I would definitely get one. If only RM coins were like this. Sadly I had to give up on the myths and legends series they were terrible. Thanks again Martin for your excellent service like this bar it was flawless. On summary RM bars on the whole appear to be very good. The James Bond bars were the same.
