The 2025 UK The Lion and The Eagle 1oz Silver Coin features two national icons, the British Lion and the American Eagle, united for the second year on a British coin, This coin is part of a series designed by John M. Mercanti, who was the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 1991 until his retirement in late 2010.
The British Lion and American Eagle appear together once more on a 2025-dated bullion coin range. Beautifully realised by John M. Mercanti, the reverse design features on all the available editions, including a one-ounce silver bullion coin.
The Obverse: design by celebrated US engraver John M. Mercanti brings two national emblems together in one harmonious composition. Powerfully conveying courage, strength and freedom, the British lion and American eagle embody the spirit of their respective nations. Instantly recognisable, these icons represent the shared values and enduring relationship between two countries that so often stand side by side.
The Reverse: You can see the likeness of the new British King Charles III, who, unlike his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, is looking to the left. The fluted coin is framed on this side by the words: “CHARLES III D G REX F D 2 POUNDS”. The letters stand for the Latin words: “Dei Gratia Rex, Fidei Defensor”. In English, this means: “King by the grace of God, defender of the faith.” The weight of this coin is 31.1035g.
