COIN INFORMATION

This design is the sixth release in the popular pirate-themed Black Flag series of premium bullion coins, and features The Kingston pirate ship.

Continuing the iconic Black Flag series from The Perth Mint, the sixth release features John “Calico Jack” Rackham and Anne Bonny’s famously pillaged merchant ship, the Kingston. Calico Jack is one of the most remarkable figures from the Golden Age of Piracy. He was an English pirate captain who derived the nickname, “Calico Jack” from the calico patterned clothing. He was also known for having two female pirates in his crew, which included his lover, the Irish Anne Bonny. Anne fled her husband and ran away with Calico Jack after the pair met at port. They sailed the Caribbean in the early 18th century, carrying out countless acts of piracy before their capture by the British Navy in 1720. While Calico Jack was tried for piracy and executed, Anne Bonny’s fate is unclear, further adding to the timeless fascination with their unlikely pairing on the sea. Theirs is an intriguing love story complete with the trappings of adventure, romance and defiance.

Obverse: of the coin shows the bare (uncrowned) head of King Charles III facing left, In small letters below, the artist’s initials: JC (for Jody Clark), Around, the monarch’s legend, the face value and the date of issue: KING CHARLES III TUVALU · 1oz 9999 Ag 2024 1 DOLLAR ·, The inscription around the rim also incorporates the precious metal content: one troy ounce of 99.99% silver (Ag is abbreviated from Argentum. the Latin word for silver), The portrait of the King has a mirror finish; the rest of the surface is frosted.

Reverse: of the coin shows a representation of The Kingston pirate ship on the waves of a tropical sea, with palm leaves around the rim. The outline of a skull is visible above the beach in the background, Above left, the inscription THE KINGSTON. Separated from this by two skull-and-bones motifs, around below BLACK FLAG: CALICO JACK & ANNE BONNY 1oz .9999 Ag (Ag is abbreviated from Argentum, the Latin word for silver), The Perth Mint’s P mint mark is above left. The designer’s initials LB (for Lucas Bowers) are below right on the hull of the ship, above the second N in ANNE.
