The swan is an iconic species that is so synonymous with The Perth Mint itself that it even appears in the mint?s logo. The Perth Mint?s operations are situated in the heart of Perth, the capital and largest city of Western Australia. Founded in 1829 on the shores of the Swan River, the original colony in the territory was in fact called Swan River Colony, the location of which is now Perth.

The Australian Swan series has been issued by the Perth Mint since 2017, in silver and gold formats.

Swans of the black feathered variety (Cygnus atratus) are graceful inhabitants of the southeast and southwest regions of Australia where they live and breed in estuaries, inlets and other wetland environments. Residents of the Swan River, which takes its European name from their presence, black swans figure in ancient Aboriginal lore and were quickly adopted by European settlers as the bird emblem of Western Australia.

The reverse: design portrays a swan flapping its wings while settling on the water, with a night sky with a full moon and stars in the background, The inscription around the rim reads 2024 1oz 9999 AUSTRALIAN SILVER SWAN, The designer’s initials AH (for Aleysha Howarth) are on the waves below right, above the letter N of SWAN, The mint mark of the Perth Mint is above the water on the right; instead of the usual P, it is a special mark reading P125 to celebrate 125 years since the foundation of the mint.

The obverse: of the coin displays the bust of King Charles III, which depicts him bare-headed (uncrowned) and wearing a suit and tie, facing left, Below the shoulder truncation in tiny letters, the artist’s initials DT (for Dan Thorne), Around, the monarch’s legend and the face value of the coin: CHARLES III AUSTRALIA · 1 DOLLAR ·
