COIN INFORMATION
The 2024 Australian Kookaburra 1oz Silver Coin was struck by The Perth Mint, Australia and is limited to a mintage of only 500,000 coins.
2024 marks the first time in the history of the Australian Kookaburra Series, a collection that dates to 1990, a new monarch will feature on the obverse. Perth Mint unveils its new portrait of Hist Majesty King Charles III. Also unique to 2024 releases from Perth Mint is the inclusion of a P125 mint mark that honors the 125th anniversary of the founding of Perth Mint back in 1899.
The obverse side of the 2024 Australian Silver Kookaburra comes with the new left-profile bust of His Majesty. Here, Charles III is shown in the opposite orientation to his mother and predecessor, Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Another key change to the monarch design is the lack of a crown, a common custom for male monarchs that started in the 20th century.
On the reverse side of 2024 1 oz Silver Kookaburra Coins is a new depiction of the namesake bird. The largest member of the kingfisher species is shown in flight over a gorge as its talons clutch a small snake. The laughing kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) is a native Australian bird and is often associated with the country’s unique wildlife. Its distinctive call, which sounds like laughter, is a familiar sound in many parts of Australia.
