The Mythical Creatures series was struck from two ounces of 99.9% silver in proof quality and is dedicated to the Siren. The motive in color shows a depiction of a siren looking at a human skull. Above is the inscription “THE SIREN”. The reverse shows the coat of arms of Niue, which is surrounded by nautical details. The weight and fineness as well as the denomination and year of issue are also included in the design.

The Sirens are mythical creatures from Greek mythology. The mixed creatures of woman and fish or woman and bird are characterized by their beguiling song, which they use to attract passing sailors. Those who do not know how to protect themselves from the song of the beautiful but dangerous creatures run the risk of shipwreck at the hidden island of the sirens and of being killed. In Homer’s “Odyssey,” one of the most famous sagas featuring the Sirens, the heroic Odysseus manages to get his crew and himself past the Sirens unharmed by tying himself to a mast and sealing his crew’s ears with wax. Limited to 750 pieces worldwide, the 2 Oz High relief silver coin is delivered in the original wooden box including a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The Public Seal of Niue is shown on the obverse of the 2023 2 oz Proof Silver The Siren Coin. This emblem showcases a stylized tree along with a 14-seashell garland and a crown. Two katoua flank the image along with the phrase “Atua Niue Tukulagi” which translates to “God Niue Eternally.” Identifying marks are displayed around the symbol as well as a ship wheel and images of different sea creatures.

The reverse of each 2023 Proof Niue Silver The Siren Coin features a colorized depiction of a Siren. This half-woman half-fish is seen in full color with blue hair and a bluish-pink tail as she’s holding a human skull, staring at it intently. The name of the coin is seen at the top.
