The twelfth and final issue of the Series Prehistoric Life from the Congo is dedicated to the dinosaur Stegosaurus. The motive of the premium bullion coin, struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver, features two stegosauri in a primeval landscape. Above the dinosaurs are the inscriptions “PREHISTORIC LIFE”, “STEGOSAURUS”, “157 – 148 MIO YEARS BC” and the year of issue 2023.

The Stegosaurus was a herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the late Jurassic period about 150 million years ago. It is especially known for the prominent bone plates on its back and the four pointed spines on its tail. Despite its enormous size, Stegosaurus had a remarkably small brain, often compared to the size of a walnut.

The Prehistoric Life Series honors the fascinating creatures that roamed the Earth millions of years ago. Each issue in this renowned series presents coins in Brilliant Uncirculated, gilded, and colorized versions. As the 11th release in the series, the Stegosaurus coin holds a special place in this captivating coin program, and it is officially backed by the Democratic Republic of Congo.
