COIN INFORMATION

The 2023 issue of the Perth Mint Quokka Premium Bullion Coin was struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver. The Quokka is a small type of wallaby found mainly in the southwest region of Western Australia. About the size of a cat, the Quokka has thick, grey-brown fur, a broad face, shiny black eyes and round furry ears. Thanks to its cute, smiley appearance and an acceptance of humans, it has become a popular subject for ‘selfies’ in the age of social media. With their always smiling facial expressions, they became famous all over the world and one of the most popular photo motives for Australia vacationers.

The motive of the limited silver bullion coin depicts a smiling Quokka surrounded by grass and shrubs. The design also includes the inscription “QUOKKA” and the traditional mintmark “P” of the Perth Mint. The reverse shows the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, supplemented with the dates of her reign, as well as the fineness and the year of issue. Each coin also has a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter within the design. It is only detectable under a magnifying glass. The mintage is limited to only 30,000 pieces worldwide. The 2023 Quokka premium silver bullion coin is delivered in a protective capsule.

The obverse: of the coin depicts the crowned old head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem crown and the Victoria Coronation necklace worn for her Coronation. This is her effigy known as the “Fifth Portrait” worldwide and “Sixth Portrait” in Australia, in “uncouped” version – showing the Queen’s shoulders and not terminating at the neck as the normal version, On the left, in small letters on the Queen’s shoulder, the artist’s initials J.C (for Jody Clark), Running continuously around the rim is the monarch’s legend and the face value: ELIZABETH II 1952 – 2022 · AUSTRALIA 2023 · 1oz 9999 Ag 1 DOLLAR ·, The inscription around the rim also incorporates the precious metal content. “1 oz 9999 Ag” means “one ounce of 99.99% silver” – Ag is abbreviated from the Latin word for silver, Argentum, The legend is interrupted by the “memorial” inclusion of the dates of the Queen’s reign, 1952 – 2022.
