The Silver coin in proof quality was struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver and is dedicated to the auroras known as Aurora Borealis, which occur in the northern hemisphere. The motive presents the spectacle of nature in fascinating shades of violet and blue. The lower half of the coin shows a depiction of a footbridge running through the peaceful Scandinavian landscape with the engraved inscription “AURORA BOREALIS”. The reverse of the coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, supplemented with the years f her reign, as well as the weight, fineness, denomination and year of issue.
The term “aurora” was first used to describe this phenomenon by Galileo Galilei in honor of the Roman goddess of the dawn. There are many myths surrounding the northern aurora borealis. According to Nordic legend, they are interpreted as a connection between the earthly and spiritual realms. From a scientific point of view, the colorful spectacle can be explained by the fact that energy-rich particles of the solar wind interact with the earth’s magnetic field, causing fluorescence. The Aurora Borealis silver proof coin in color is issued with a mintage of only 2,000 pieces worldwide and will be delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse field of 2023 Tuvalu Aurora Borealis 1 oz Silver Coins. This portrait is the result of a contest held by The Royal Mint in 1997 for the Fourth-Generation effigy of the Queen. The winner was Ian Rank-Broadley, whose iconic design debuted the following year to much acclaim. Youll also find inscriptions of the coins hallmarks on the obverse field.
Reverse
The reverse of the coin shows a bridge with the inscription “AURORA BOREALIS”. The Aurora Borealis is a mesmerising phenomenon where coloured bands of light dance across the canvas of the northern polar sky.

I like this coin more than I thought I would have after wanting to just diversify my stack. I really like the elegant colours and presentation of the packaging. The coin does have slight banding issues in the dark areas of the colouring but when held at the right angle and light the true depth of the colours really pop.
