Since 2018, the South Korean mint KOMSCO has been issuing the silver Tiger Medal to enthusiastic fans across the globe. Now this modern classic is back for a fifth year with a brand-new design and limited mintage. Whether you’ve been collecting these medals since the beginning or are a newcomer to the series, this new design is a must-have for tiger enthusiasts.

Each 2022 1 oz South Korean Tiger Medal will arrive to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This means that only minor wear and tear may be present upon inspection. Each of these medals was struck in .999 pure silver by KOMSCO, the premier currency manufacturer in South Korea. Individual rounds will arrive in plastic flips. Alternately, multiples of 25 ship in tubes while orders of 250 arrive in a box.

In Korean culture, a storyteller will often begin a tale with “When tigers used to smoke,” which is their equivalent of “Once upon a time.” Tigers are important not just to the cultural fabric of Korea, but also to its mythology. Most notably, tigers play a crucial role in the myth of Dangun, which recounts the origin of Korea’s first kingdom, Gojoseon.

Obverse

On the obverse side of 2022 1 oz South Korean Tiger Silver Medal, youll find a tiger cub on Seoraksan mountain. The cubs paws are set up on a ledge as its head faces left. Behind the tiger we see a cable car taking a group of visitors up to the summit, where a magnificent view awaits. The obverse also includes inscriptions that read KOREAN TIGER, 2022, 1 OZ, SEORAKSAN.

Reverse

The reverse of 2022 1 oz South Korean Tiger Silver Medals contains a depiction of the Korean peninsula. But in a clever twist, the body of land is assembled through Hangul lettering. Additional reverse details include a latent security feature and an image of the Taegeuk. The medals rim is decorated with tiger stripes and also features inscriptions that read REPUBLIC OF KOREA, FINE SILVER, .999.
