COIN INFORMATION
The Rolling Stones formed in 1962 are one of the worlds most iconic rock bands and are the feature of the Royal Mints 5th release in the highly sought after ‘Music Legends’ series. Mick Jagger along with Keith Richards formed the band after a chance meeting at Dartford train station in 1961. They had attended the same primary school as children but lost touch when Jagger’s family moved away. Their first show billed as the Rolling Stones came on 12th July 1962 at the Marquee club in London. Still performing today the band went on to sell over 240 million records worldwide.
The British Music Legends Series started at the Royal Mint in 2020 and has, to date, focused on some of the most iconic music acts of the 20th century. Though the groups and individuals featured to date in the series are British groups, these icons are recognized around the globe.
Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse side of 2022 British Music Legends The Rolling Stones Coins. This is one of the final coins from the Royal Mint with the Queen’s effigy and offers the fifth-generation design from Jody Clark that shows Her Majesty in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem.
The Rolling Stones feature in the reverse design of the 2022 1 oz British Music Legends Silver Coins. This detailed design captures the members of The Rolling Stones on stage with their silhouettes framed by the lights of the stage as throngs of adoring fans in the foreground cheer them on.
