This 2022 Silver Tuvalu Perth DC Comics: Phantom 1 oz BU is the latest superhero-themed offering from the island of Tuvalu, in association with Perth Mint. According to the mint, “The Phantom, sworn to the destruction of piracy, greed, cruelty, and injustice, was created by Lee Falk in 1936. Seemingly immortal, having been around since 1536, he is in fact the 21st member of a crime-fighting dynasty who all adopt the same costumed persona. The Phantom lives in a jungle hideout known as Skull Cave, where all previous Phantoms are buried. Like his predecessors, he relies on his strength, intellect, and legendary immortality to overcome evil. Featured in The Phantom, the most widely-read superhero comic in the world, the anti-crime crusader is also a star of film, television, and video games.”

When it debuted in 1936, The Phantom comic gave readers a hero as theyd never seen before. The Phantom was the first superhero to have an official spandex costume and, in many ways, set the standard for characters like Superman, Spiderman, and The Flash. But because of his vigilante status and lack of any actual superpowers, some fans consider The Phantom as a precursor of The Batman.

Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of 2022 Tuvalu The Phantom 1 oz Silver Coins. One of the most beloved monarchs in history, Her Late Majesty celebrated her historic Platinum Jubilee in 2022 before passing away at the age of 96. The obverse also features inscriptions that read QUEEN ELIZABETH II, 1 OZ .9999 SILVER, 2022, TUVALU, 1 DOLLAR.

Reverse

The Phantom is shown on the reverse side of 2022 The Phantom 1 oz Silver Coins. In this design, we see the legendary vigilante hero in full costume. He has his arms folded and stands in an imposing position with a fierce, determined expression on his face. Behind him, there is a skull pattern for added contrast and design nuance. Along the lower portion of the reverse, youll find the official licensing information. There is also an inscription in large lettering that reads THE PHANTOM.

With a limited issue of only 25,000 coins.
