COIN INFORMATION
Some of our favourite animated cartoon characters belong to the Looney Tunes family. The first film series was produced in 1930 and introduced everyone to some of these lovable characters. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety, Road Runner and many more were brought to life for all to enjoy. Looney Tunes characters have been on television, feature films, comic books, video games and music albums.
The currency of Samoa is the Tālā, the name of which is a transliteration of the English words Dollar; it was introduced in 1967. On coinage sometimes the English word is inscribed, especially on commemorative and bullion coins not intended to circulate within the country, Samoa has authorised some private mints to issue coins under its jurisdiction, which come in a variety of sizes – including in the popular silver ounce (1 oz silver) format, such as this one.
Brilliant Uncirculated coin with a coloured reverse, in light blue blister card (TEP – RF-welded plastic polymer case) branded with the LOONEY TUNES logo.
The obverse: of the coin features the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the “Fourth Portrait”, by Ian Rank-Broadley). The Queen wears the “Girls of Great Britain and Ireland” diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty’s grandmother) in 1947 – which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.
The Reverse: the coin features cartoon character Daffy Duck with a frustrated look on his face. Behind him are the familiar circles associated with Looney Tunes, In small letters around above left, the copyright acknowledgement TM & © WBEI (s22) (Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.), Around below left, the inscription DAFFY DUCK, followed by the precious metal content 1 OZ AG .999 (one troy ounce of 99.9% silver).
