This silver coin officially licensed by DC COMICS™ replicates the iconic Batarang™, the iconic bat-shaped throwing weapon of the superhero Batman™. Struck by the New Zealand Mint from one ounce of 99.9% silver in uncirculated quality, the uniquely shaped coin was provided with the shape of the Batarang™. The reverse shows the coat of arms of Samoa as well as the weight and fineness, the year of issue, the denomination and the copyright.

Since 1940, billionaire Bruce Wayne™ has been fighting evil in Gotham City™ as Batman™. He has dedicated his life to an endless crusade, a war against all criminals in the name of his murdered parents, who were taken from him when he was just a child. He is not only one of the first and most famous superheroes of the DC Universe, but also a founding member of the Justice League™. The Batarang™ is part of the basic equipment of the arsenal of Batman™ and exists in numerous variants. The use of the Batarang™ as an alternative to firearms, which Batman™ fundamentally rejects, is due in part to the circumstances surrounding the murder of his parents. The limited Silver coin in the form of the Batman – Batarang™ is delivered in a protective coin capsule.

In most appearances, Batarangs are throwing weapons used by Batman. Depending on the era and/or creator, they are based on either Australian aboriginal boomerangs or Japanese shuriken. In all versions they are made of metal, usually steel alloy, and stylized/shaped in the form of bats. Batarangs are often made to fit in the utility belt, either by a folding mechanism or because they are small enough to be stowed in its compartments.

Batarangs are primarily used as ranged weapons to overwhelm or disable enemies from a distance. Although they are usually thrown by hand, some have been fired from devices such as batarang guns or used as melee weapons. Early versions returned to Batman and Robin after being thrown, but this has been lost over time. Batarangs can also be used to break objects such as glass and pipes. Precisely thrown Batarangs are capable of disarming enemies or destroying weapons. In some stories, Batman has added tranquilizers to his Batarangs to incapacitate opponents immediately or for an extended period of time.
