COIN INFORMATION
The long-running Australian Lunar Coin Series, first published in 1995 and now in its third cycle, honors the animals of the Chinese zodiac with a catalog of annual designs representing mouse, wolf, tiger, rabbit, lizard, snake, horse, donkey, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. These 2022 coins are honoring the Year of the Tiger, which is the third in the 12-year lunar cycle is said to apply to people born in 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, and 2022.
The Perth Mint has put a limit on the 1 oz coins and will only produce up to 300,000 one oz coins. The output will stop until the mintage is entirely sold or at the conclusion of the series, whichever comes first. Because of the 1 oz size’s limited mintage, it is extremely sought-after and is likely to sell out easily. The coins are strictly struck from 99.99 percent pure silver and are issued under the Australian Currency Act 1965 as legal tender.
The reverse of the coin features an adult tiger with her cub following behind across rocky terrain. The Chinese character for Tiger and the inscription ‘Tiger 2022’ appear in the design, alongside The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The obverse design bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Details of the coins weight, fineness, metal type and monetary denomination also appear.
