The emu is Australia’s largest bird and it is also the second-largest by height in the world after the ostrich. It’s recognised as an Australian cultural icon all over the world and its habitat encompasses the entire country, Though they cannot fly, Australia’s tallest native bird is no snoozer. The Emu’s legs can propel it forward at speeds up to 50 kilometers per hour. That’s more than 30 miles per hour! But, if you think that’s fast, you should see how quickly these coins tend to sell out at the mint!

The new design for 2022 shows a close-up image of a mother emu’s face, her large eye and beak dominating the scene while its baby pecks its way through an Australian Outback landscape in the background. Maybe it’s just collectors’ desire to secure a full freshly-struck coin containing one ounce of 99.99% pure silver minted at Australia’s famous Perth Mint.

The Emu has been issued with annually changing motifs since 2018. The great Australian flightless bird can be seen in different situations and by different designers. The mintage of each year is strictly limited. Only 30,000 pieces are issued annually by the Perth Mint. Each of the Emu silver coins offered here as a set weighs 1 ounce and has a fineness of (.9999 silver).

The value side shows the current portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which was designed by Jody Clark (his abbreviation can be seen on the left shoulder). The issuing country and the official face value of 1 Australian dollar are stamped on the inscription.
