This premium bullion coin was struck from one ounce of 99.9% silver and commemorates Steve McQueen – one of the most charismatic cinema heroes that the film industry has produced.

Steve McQueen was one of the most renowned film actors of the 1960s and 1970s. He became famous for his leading role in the 1958 science fiction film “The Blob”, which was followed by other engagements, including the successful productions “The Magnificent Seven”, “Broken Chains” and “Cincinnati Kid”, which made him known to a wide audience. McQueen was characterised by his rugged looks and casual demeanour. Also characteristic was his great fondness for motorcycles and for exotic and fast cars. Steve McQueen passed away on November 7, 1980 at the age of 50.

The obverse: of the coin features the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the “Fourth Portrait”, by Ian Rank-Broadley). The Queen wears the “Girls of Great Britain and Ireland” diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty’s grandmother) in 1947 – which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.

The reverse: of the coin features Steve McQueen in two different representations. The right half of the coin shows the actor in side profile; below left, he is shown pushing his motorcycle. Above left, the inscription the King of Cool, which was his nickname, below which his initials SMQ and his name STEVE MCQUEEN.
